Newark Child Care Center

Tri-City‘s Newark Child Care Center (The Peoples Center) (since 1966) located at 675 South 19th Street in Newark is a NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) accredited program since 1974. The Newark Child Care Center is licensed by the state of New Jersey to serve 138 children age 2 ˝ to 13 including Wrap Around services.

Hours of operation 7:00 am-6:00pm Monday-Friday

Age Classroom Capacity 2 ˝ year old 15-18 children 3 and 4 year old 60 children 5-13 year old 41+ children The Peoples Center collaborates with the Newark Public Schools (NPS) to implement the NJ Supreme Court Abbott program (now referred to as Preschool) for children who are age 3 or 4 by October 1 of the current school year. Children are guaranteed quality education under the instruction of certified and qualified teachers and teacher’s assistants. Classroom instruction is guided by implementing the Creative Curriculum and provides our children with developmentally appropriate practices through hands on activities and technology. The Abbott program operates in concurrence with the NPS calendar.

Our collaboration with NPS affords our students and teachers access to the following resources:

• Family Worker

• Summer Enrichment Program (June-August) if offered by NPS


The Peoples Center also offers the opportunity for Non-Abbott enrollment. Program for Parents vouchers slots are also available for those who meet the criteria. (Parents must be working in school or training program for twenty-five hours or more a week in order to qualify. PFP determines your fee by your family size and income). Private pay slots are extremely affordable and far below the average child care rates.

Summer camp operation hours: July-August 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Summer camper enjoy a variety of activities (including field trips) that are designed to enhance cultural and self-awareness, develop and nurture social skills, and support continued learning (eliminate loss of learning during summer months).


Tri-City provides nutritional meals daily: Breakfast, Lunch, and P.M. Snack. All meals meet USDA guidelines and standards.
